That famous casa crawl is back for a third time. The Mérida Showcase of Homes #3, or Tour de Casas de Mérida #3, is Sunday, Nov. 6 from 2-6 p.m. Several Centro homeowners open their doors and invite the public, eager to see what is normally hidden behind high walls.
(This is not to be confused with Keith Heitke’s House and Garden Tours every Wednesday starting at the Merida English Language Library.)
The first Showcase, in March 2010, saw patrons touring Santiago to see the work of Stephen Conger, Victor Cruz, John Powell, Josh Ramos, Salvador Reyes and Josefina Larrain. The second tour was in March of this year. The fact that Brazos is not waiting another year to do a third event seems to suggest a very fruitful fund-raiser.
Tickets are $250 pesos apiece, and as always proceeds benefit Brazos Abiertos, the AIDS/HIV education and prevention organization. If you aren’t able to get tickets ahead of time, they can be purchased at the tour’s starting point, Calle 53 #520 x 66 y 68, Centro.
The tour concludes at the expat enclave Hennessy’s, where a cash bar awaits.
